Vanderbilt Health has begun sharing a weekly summary of hospitals for COVID-19. The summaries show increasing total hospitalizations and a striking difference between those who have been fully vaccinated and those who are not.
The chart at right shows the total hospitalizations due to COVID-19 over the seven days ending Sept. 4, 2021. Only 13% have been among patients who are fully vaccinated, 8% of patients requiring ICU care are fully vaccinated, and none of those requiring ventilators are fully vaccinated. Most of these vaccinated patients also have underlying health conditions that wearing their immune system, reducing their bodies' ability to mount a strong response to the vaccine. The vaccine continues to do its most important job, to lower risk of hospitalization and death from serious COVID-19.
