In partnership with Nashville State Community College (NSCC), Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) Programs for Allied Health launched a new Medical Assistant (MA) program this spring. MA trainees will complete a 12-week program that includes coursework at NSCC and a clinical preceptorship at VUMC.
The first cohort of 11 VUMC employees enrolled in the course on April 25. MA trainees can retain their status as full-time employees, receiving compensation and benefits while also receiving complete coverage of tuition and fees for the MA program.
The MA program plans to enroll two cohorts of VUMC employees each year, and a cohort of high school graduates each summer. Once students graduate from the program, they will work in adult and pediatric services at VUMC and its regional hospitals and clinics.
