“I love playing music. I've been playing since I was seven years old,” said Dan Kassis, a marketing communications specialist by day and drumming enthusiast by night.
But then a sharp stabbing pain came on suddenly in his shoulder and persisted, making it hard to continue drumming.
“I thought maybe it was something I could live with for a while. But after a few months having to adapt, that's just not something that I could live with,” he said.
When Kassis learned his employer offered the MyOrthoHealth Shoulder Pain Bundle, he was eager to see if it could help his pain—without surgery.
The Shoulder Pain Bundle is a win-win for employees and employers because it lowers employee out-of-pocket costs and creates a predictable cost for employers. The program ensures a better care experience with the services of a patient navigator and directs non-surgical candidates to less-invasive options.
“I knew I wanted to avoid surgery on the shoulder, if possible, and seek other avenues of treatment first,” Kassis said. “The shoulder pain bundle was an ideal situation because I knew upfront exactly what kind of care I was eligible for and all the steps I would be going through. I had a patient navigator to guide me through the process, and she was fantastic. I knew upfront that I wouldn't be experiencing any out-of-pocket costs.
“I think the fact that this bundle was available through our employer shows that they truly value our well-being and that they're making it as easy as possible to seek care under. I feel very glad that I had that shoulder care bundle available to me and that I was able to get the care I needed and avoid surgery and get back to doing what I like to do.”
