Free Webinar Offers Educational Support for Students With Disabilities

Research shows that students with disabilities and mental health diagnoses face more disciplinary actions and encounters with the juvenile justice system than their peers without these diagnoses. It's no surprise these students struggle in class and become disengaged with school.

The Vanderbilt Health Affiliated Network created a new Well Moment webinar, "Educational Support for Students With Disabilities," with strategies for helping students with disabilities access special services and advocacy resources so they can get a quality education, graduate from high school and make a plan for the future.

The July 15 webinar featured expert insights from two members of The Education Rights Project team: Lydia Burris, a social worker, and Jordyn M. Conley, an education attorney. The speakers discussed:

  • How to request an evaluation for special education services for a student with a suspected disability
  • Tips for identifying school plans to support students with disabilities
  • Ways to navigate school advocacy resources in Tennessee, including Individualized Education Programs

With the school year beginning soon, your employees with children may be interested in listening to the recording and viewing the presentation found here.
