Executive Health, Reimagined: Preventive Care for High-Performing Professionals

At Vanderbilt’s Executive Health Physicals, taking care of company leaders involves more than an annual check-up. It’s a strategic collaboration designed to meet the needs of high-performing professionals who often prioritize work over wellness. The program delivers customized, evidence-based care that is efficient, proactive and personalized.

"These are high-functioning individuals who give 100% to their jobs," said Sapna Kripalani, MD, medical director of Vanderbilt’s EHP program. "And sometimes that leaves little for them to dedicate towards their own health. That’s why it’s so important that they come to us for a comprehensive, personalized visit. Our program prioritizes their time and provides efficient, in-depth care, so they can get back to what they need to be doing.”

Instead of navigating multiple appointments across different locations, patients receive comprehensive care in a single, streamlined visit. From lab work and screenings to fitness evaluations and dietary consultations, every aspect of the visit is tailored to the patient.

Proactive Testing and Early Detection

A defining feature of the executive health program is its emphasis on prevention. The team has the capability to employ advanced diagnostics—including screening for genetic markers for qualifying patients—to identify risks early, even in people who are asymptomatic.

"We've had patients come in feeling perfectly healthy who, through proactive imaging and testing, discovered early-stage cardiovascular disease or even cancer," Dr. Kripalani said. "By catching these issues early, we can truly change someone's health trajectory."

One patient story stands out: A man who had just completed his physical called the team a few months later to report a swollen lymph node. Thanks to his recent visit and established relationship with the care team, he was seen quickly and diagnosed with early-stage lymphoma. He is now in remission.

A Multidisciplinary Team Approach

The program brings together experienced clinicians from across specialties: physicians, exercise physiologist, nutritionist and newly added licensed clinical social worker. The team can also provide access to specialty care when needed. This team-based model ensures that every aspect of a patient’s health is addressed—not just medical symptoms, but also emotional well-being, sleep quality, and lifestyle habits.

EHP patients benefit from follow-up care, with a dietitian remaining a touchpoint via telehealth, phone or secure messaging. This ongoing support helps participants stay accountable to their wellness goals long after the appointment ends.

Patient-Centered and Impact-Driven

Feedback from participants is overwhelmingly positive. Many cite the ample time with providers, the focus on whole-person health and the thoughtful coordination of services as key differentiators.

"One patient told us, 'This might be the highlight of my year,'" Dr. Kripalani shared. "That speaks volumes about the value of feeling seen, heard and cared for in a system that often moves too fast."
