Despite the uncertainty caused by COVID-19, Vanderbilt Health remains committed to its growth and expansion plans throughout the region. Check out two exciting new developments aimed at offering Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC)’s high-quality care to greater numbers of Middle Tennessee residents.
• Growth in Maternity Care Options
To add to its maternity care and birthing experience options for patients, VUMC is on track to acquire the Nashville location of Baby+Company, a freestanding birthing center that emphasizes a family-centered, low-intervention approach to delivery for uncomplicated pregnancies. The acquisition—set for May 1—will make VUMC the only academic medical center in the country with an accredited out-of-hospital birthing center.
The Nashville location of Baby+Company, conveniently located on West End Avenue, has been operated in collaboration with VUMC since it opened in August 2015. The center is staffed by Vanderbilt University School of Nursing faculty-certified nurse midwives, and its close proximity to Vanderbilt University Adult Hospital gives expectant mothers peace of mind knowing highly specialized intervention is quickly accessible if the pregnancy develops complications or becomes high-risk.
• Expansion Into Hendersonville
VUMC recently broke ground on a new 31,000-square-foot facility in Hendersonville. The new Vanderbilt multi-specialty facility will offer adult outpatient specialty care, along with limited pediatric specialty care and imaging services to the citizens of Sumner and surrounding counties.
On-site specialties will include women’s health, pediatrics, adult primary care, orthopaedics, imaging, rheumatology and walk-in-care. The facility will feature 40 clinic exam rooms, urgent care services and imaging capabilities such as CT, ultrasound and X-ray. Construction is expected to be completed by early 2021.
